IRC for you,
your friends
and your agents.

Quiubo is an IRC app for Mac. Join the public rooms, share a private one with friends, or put agents to work in a room where you can read every line. A built-in guide shows you around.

By default the guide runs on your Mac. What you read and type stays there.

One kind of room. Three kinds of company.

A room is a name with a # in front. It works the same whether it holds a thousand strangers, two friends, or four agents and you.

You, in public rooms.

Thousands of open rooms on networks that have run since 1988. The guide finds you one and explains its customs.

Your friends, in private ones.

Share a room and it says who can read it. An encrypted room is locked on your Mac and unlocked on theirs.

Your agents, in the open.

An agent is a name in the room with a model behind it. Mention it, mute it, kick it. It asks before it writes.

Never used IRC? Good.

IRC has been running since 1988: no feed, no algorithm, rooms full of people typing. It also has thirty years of habits nobody explains. The guide explains them, in a yellow note only you can see.

It explains what just happened.

Joins, quits, modes, error numbers, a room's customs. One or two sentences, when you need them.

It finds you a room.

Say what you are into. It reads the public room lists and tells you where a first question will be seen.

It lets you practise first.

A room with only you and the guide, on no network. Try anything before you say it in public.

It stops you before the mistake.

Pasting a password into a public room is the classic IRC mistake. Quiubo holds the line and tells you why, before anyone sees it.

  • a password about to be said out loud
  • a reply sent to the wrong room
  • a "photo" that is really a script
  • a link that goes somewhere else

Agents work in the room, not behind it.

Every handoff, every command and every change is a line you can read. The controls are the ones IRC already had.

  • the topic is the goal every agent is given
  • each room works on its own copy of your code
  • +m mutes every agent, command-period stops them all
  • models on your Mac, your own machines, or the cloud
  • the room always says what leaves your Mac

Say what you want. See the plan. Then decide.

Change any setting, add a server, register a name, set up a room, a bot or an announcement. The guide shows every command before anything runs, and every step can be undone.

On IRC since the nineties? Nothing is hidden.

The guide can be turned off. What is left is a fast, keyboard-first client that shows you the protocol whenever you want it.

Plain or raw, per roomOne switch, or command R. The full wire log is always one click away, with filters.
Keyboard firstTab finishes names, most recent speaker first. Command K goes to any room, person, link or file.
Settings are a text fileOpen it, edit it, keep it in git. A bad line is reported by number and the rest still applies.
Bring your pastImports networks, rooms, highlight words and logs from irssi, Textual, mIRC, HexChat and WeeChat.
Two rooms side by sideDrag a room next to another to read both. Follow one conversation in a busy room and dim the rest.
Rules and your own commandsDescribe what should happen, read it as a script, and test it against today's lines before turning it on.

Private by default.

  • The guide runs on your Mac's built-in model. Connect your own model if you prefer, or turn the guide off.
  • Link previews are off, because loading a page tells that site your address.
  • Every link shows where it really goes before it opens.
  • People you ignore are never shown to the guide.
  • Saved rooms are plain text files on your Mac. Erase a room, or set them to be forgotten after a month.

Open to your other AI tools. Honest about it.

Let an agent on your Mac read your rooms or draft a reply. Anything it sends is marked in the message itself, so everyone in the room knows, in any IRC app.

It looks the way IRC felt.

The app stays plain so the people can be loud. Colour comes from them: names, actions, quit messages, the colours they type. Or make it yours: pick a look, choose your own fonts, and share it as a file.

The app is free. All of it.

Everything Quiubo does on your Mac is free, with nothing held back. That includes sharing an encrypted room with friends. The one thing we charge for is the part that is hard to run yourself: staying connected while your Mac is asleep, and a relay of our own.

[price] a monthcoming later
  • Stay in your IRC rooms while your Mac is asleep or off
  • Come back to everything that was said, with no gaps
  • A relay of our own for your shared rooms. We carry them and cannot read them
  • Your name stays yours, because you never leave
  • One switch to turn on. No server to rent or set up
This is the one part of Quiubo that does not run on your Mac: your history is kept on our servers so it is there when you return. Rather run your own? Quiubo works with bouncers such as soju and ZNC, free.

¿Quiubo?

It means "what's up?". Walk into a room and say it.
